If I'm not mistaken the English terms are ''Auk'' for northern hemisphere, smaller birds, and ''Penguin'' for the southern hemisphere, bigger birds that cannot fly.
But the word penguin comes from the French word ''Pingouin'' which we use to name the northern species. What we use for the southern one is ''Manchot''. That's also the word used to describe someone who's missing one or both arms so that's an extra fun fact on top.
