What I like about 3D Platformer Collectathon games is the exploration of it. Roaming back and forth looking for the collectable. Especially while being at risk of dying to enemies.

Bubsy 4D doesn't have that. Enemies are killed easily via lock-on homing attacks.

Side paths only take a few minutes and are just as linear as the main path.

It's not an exploration game, it's a speedrunning game. And if that's your cup of tea you'll love it. But for others, you won't.

Whether the game is a collectathon is questionable in itself. Collectathon originally came from the word "marathon".

But it isn't really a marathon when there is only 1 major collectable per level. And only 1 minor collectable per level.
