[NEW] Platform Racing 2 Rules
#1
Welcome to Platform Racing 2! We're excited to have you here. Before we begin, let's address what is/isn't okay.

PR2 has a team of moderators/admins (the staff team) that helps keep the game fair and safe for all. Each member of the team may use their discretion in deciding how to handle particular cases. This may result in the severity of some disciplinary actions being different case-by-case. While we do aim for consistency, these differences will continue to exist; however, if you feel you have been treated unfairly, you are always welcome to appeal your ban in the Contact a Mod forum (only you and the staff team will be able to see your appeal).

It's important to note that while we can't anticipate every rule that will be needed, this thread aims to cover as many offenses as possible. This will hopefully provide users with a clearer understanding of what is appropriate for PR2. Use your best judgment, and we will as well.

Ban Types
We have four different types of bans.

1. A warning (or "mute") is the most entry-level, basic ban there is. In fact, it's not even a ban! A warning is to let you know you broke a rule without banning you. When you get warned, you'll remain in the server but won't be able to chat for a specified amount of time. A moderator will usually administer a warning before a greater disciplinary action, but they are not required to do so. This doesn't count towards your prior bans.

2. A server ban (or "kick", "30-minute kick", "server kick") is kind of halfway between a warning and a ban. When you get kicked from a server, you won't be able to re-enter that server for 30 minutes. A moderator may choose to administer a kick instead of a ban at their discretion. This doesn't count towards your prior bans.

3. A social ban is for the less severe offenses usually having to do with social interactions in-game. Users who are in this banned category will be able to do everything normally available except:
- Register new accounts
- Use guest accounts
- Use any messaging features (lobby/level chat, PMs)
- View any of the contest pages on PR2 Hub
- Use any guild features
- Rate levels
- Publish levels (saving as unpublished is still permitted if banned while in LE)

4. The traditional game ban bans a user from the entire game. They won't be able to access the game or any pages on pr2hub.com (except for their ban page).

Depending on how many prior bans you have, the punishments for breaking rules could be more severe. This means they can increase in scope (kick -> social, social -> game) or duration. To view your prior bans, you can use this link while logged into your PR2 account.

Social Rules
Ways in which you shouldn't interact with others.

General

Swearing
Any swear word changed to something else in PR2 falls under this heading. While the swear filter is optional from user to user (it can be disabled in the options menu), filter evading and swearing directed at others (including manually typed phrases that the swear filter uses) is never permitted. Overuse of swearing caught by the swear filter may also become an issue (and warrants the same consequences as a regularly filtered swear). More details:

(8th January 2018, 8:22 PM)bls1999 Wrote: - Filter evading is always against the rules
- Swearing is okay if filtered and not at another user or group of people (i.e. "fooeying cooler races suck" would be against the rules, but "i can't believe i fooeyed that up" wouldn't)
- Excessive swearing (if otherwise against the rules) would be treated as if it was spam/flooding.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-hour social ban.

Spamming
Spamming is generally defined as 3 or more repeated (i.e. flooding) or meaningless messages. Depending on the situation, a staff member may expand on this definition.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-hour social ban.

Be Nice
Be nice to all users. Do not insult, flame, troll, needlessly argue with, or be rude to others.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-hour social ban.
* Note: often, these offenses fall under the ban reason of "bad chatting." Therefore, your list of priors could be greater than you think.

Rudeness
This is a subset of "be nice." This is pretty broad and as such is open to interpretation by each moderator. It can include (but is not limited to) threatening, targeting, flaming, stalking, and harassing. If you have a specific issue with another player, please contact a staff member. As the words at the bottom of the chat say, "Be nice." Smile
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-hour social ban.

Asking for Passwords
Asking for passwords in any form (including asking to trade or share accounts) is not allowed.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day social ban.

Blackmailing/DOXing
Blackmailing or posting personal information about or pictures/videos of a player without their explicit consent is strictly prohibited.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-week social ban.

Inappropriate Content
Inappropriate discussions, requests, or links/posts are prohibited. This includes cybering and links that contain shock, gore, or pornographic content (be careful if the page you are posting has inappropriate ads!).
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. For less severe offenses, usually: 1-day social ban.
* Note: what may be considered inappropriate content can be determined independently by an individual moderator (in other words, discretionary). Some words when used in context (e.g. dick, vagina, etc.) may be fine but will ultimately depend on the staff member watching the chat.

Cybering
This is a subset of inappropriate content. Sending/requesting suggestive/explicit messages/media or engaging in cybering in PMs is not acceptable. This can include (but is not limited to) sending sexually-explicit messages (i.e. "sexts") or lewd/gore/shock/pornographic content (e.g. links, media).
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day social ban. If any type of lewd/gore/shock/pornographic material is included: 1-week social ban.

Dangerous Content
This is a subset of inappropriate content. Links/content designed to trick users, or which otherwise hold malicious/misleading/dangerous/illegal content are unacceptable. Additionally, any discussions that encourage, promote, or identify dangerous/harmful behaviors are strictly prohibited. This includes (but is not limited to) discussions about harmful substances, risk-taking behaviors, and suicide.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-week social ban.

Scamming or Attempted Scamming
Scamming is a subset of dangerous content and is defined as tricking a user into revealing (especially passwords and/or sensitive information) or doing something under false pretenses.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day social ban.

Provocative/Inappropriate Usernames
This includes rude/inappropriate names or ones that impersonate another user.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-year account-only game ban + 1-day IP-only social ban.
* Note: accounts impersonating members of staff may incur more serious disciplinary consequences.

Chat-Specific

Other Languages
In order to moderate the chat, we must be able to understand what is being said. For this reason, we ask you to please refrain from using languages other than English in the main room. If you would like to speak another language with fellow racers, you are welcomed to make a new chat room.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies.

Zalgo
Posting zalgo can, in some instances, cause the chat/game to break.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-hour social ban.

Sharing / Giving Away Accounts
While we can't enforce this privately, we don't allow users to give away or offer their accounts to a public chatroom.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day social ban.

Warn Evasion
Evading warnings given by staff may result in heavier consequences.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: 1-hour social ban.

Gameplay Rules
Ways in which the game shouldn't be played.

Cheating
Cheating is defined on PR2 as using any third-party program or additional means that gives you an unfair advantage over other players. Hacking can be a form of cheating, but also includes edits made to the PR2 client. Likewise, asking or teaching how to hack/cheat is also not permitted.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-week game ban.

Botting
Botting is a subset of cheating. It is using a third-party program to generate/gain EXP quickly.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies.

Macroing on the Campaign Tab
Albeit a niche rule, macroing is not allowed on the campaign tab.
To be clear: macroing is allowed, but macroing on the campaign tab is not.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day game ban.

Inappropriate Levels
Levels that contain inappropriate content are prohibited. Something inappropriate can be in the title, description, or art of the level (e.g. block, text, drawn imagery, placement of stamps). Some of the things that may be deemed inappropriate are:
- Swearing
- Content targeting/insulting/flaming others (or a race, religion, nationality, or social/sexual identity)
- Pornographic imagery
- Scamming or asking for passwords in any form
- Level copying without permission
- Republishing a level removed by a moderator
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-day social ban.
* Note: Copying and publishing a level is against the rules when the original author has expressed (at least implicitly) their disapproval of it being copied or where credit to the original creator is not given.

Level Blocking
Level blocking is filling a level slot in the lobby repeatedly and refusing to play.
-> Ban length on first offense: 1-hour game ban.

Meta / Other
Rules about breaking rules.

Kick/Ban Evading
Evading kicks or bans administered by staff may result in heavier consequences.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies.
* Note: We're human and will sometimes make mistakes. If you appeal a kick/ban you feel is unjust, please remain patient while your appeal is in progress. Kick/ban evading during this time will result in more severe consequences.

Framing
Framing players for offenses usually includes modifying PM formats, falsifying screenshots, or manipulating video evidence.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies. Usually: the same length or greater of the punishment for the offense for which you attempted to frame the player.

Illegal Activities
No illegal activities are to be conducted on or through PR2. This includes DoS/DDoS attacks and threatening to perform illegal acts.
-> Ban length on first offense: discretionary; varies.

Account Safety
A note about security/safety of accounts.

NEVER share your password with ANYONE.

The staff team does not condone or get involved with transactions of accounts (e.g. trading, selling, buying, sharing). We highly advise against engaging in these activities. Engaging in any of the aforementioned activities is done at your own risk; we will not assist if you get scammed or run into any other issues in the process.

Thank you for reading! We will keep this thread updated when rules change or things need to be clarified. If you have any questions/requests, feel free to post in Contact a Mod. Big Grin

Moderators have the power to act on new cases and issues as they see fit. The PR2 staff reserves the right to modify these rules at any time. Use your best judgment, and we will as well.
