[PR2 Bug] Hat Attack Bug

Hi, JBG and I discover a little bug in the new game mode Hat Attack. When a person has all 4 hats and survives the 5 second countdown, usually they will drop the 4 hats. But when someone leaves right after they complete the countdown, the server is not given enough time to drop off the hats. As a result, the hats disappear and the other players cannot pick them up.

I don't think it has to do with the speed at which one leaves the game. The amount of time Kacper took to leave the game is more than enough time for PHP to go through the process of removing the hats (prob could've been done 100x in that amount of time). Can someone do more testing with this?

I think I figured out the issue, but it needs testing. Are hats able to be removed during the countdown?

I have noticed something every time this bug happens. So far, it only happens when the player "KacperW" takes in all the hats. In the two videos, you can see that every time KacperW finishes, the hats disappears. I've tried testing this with 3 other players on the same level (Planetary Hat Attack by: KacperW) but everything went smoothly.

Thanks for this! To be clear, are we talking about returning to the lobby before the hats are removed? I'll need footage of the bug actually happening if you're able to get it.

Yes, we are talking about returning to the lobby before the hats are removed. I will see if I can capture the bug again with the same player.

It doesn't remove the hat or hurt the player
also when the player quits in the countdown the hat doesn't fade out with the rest of the player it just disappears immediately

This makes me think that it may have something to do with the player having upward trajectory while finishing-- perhaps in the middle of a jump or on an arrow block. Sort of like how in sim levels how all the hats can get removed at the end, except I think that the player can still get hats during that period too.

That makes this really complicated on my end. Like I said, a lot of sim levels remove the hats at the end, using the player's momentum and trajectory to propel them to hit the bombs. If I patched this, all hell would break loose. I think the way to go would be to not allow players to pick up the hats, while still allowing them to be dropped.

More testing on the first point would be much appreciated. 🙏🏻
