I see people posting to these threads all the time. Why?… I’m not sure. But, if you think about it, these threads aren’t really providing anything for you to learn, are they? In the long run, they’re just taking up too much space in the forums. It's like when you have 1TB of storage space on your PC, but then all of a sudden you've used over 800GB of space, already. Then, you're perplexed at the situation because you're oblivious as to where that space went to, you see what I mean?

I used to post to some of those threads every now and then, until I realized just how stupid I felt posting there in the first place. If you contribute to these useless threads, then you should feel like a Village Idiot. I'm not casting aspersions on anyone for contributing to those silly ass threads, I'm just letting you know just how ignorant it is.

The truth is, when you're a well-respected member of a community, people will contribute to the most asinine things that you post - whether it's on Twitter, Instagram, or even TikTok. This is how you potentially lose brain cells during the process because you're not really learning anything; you're just jumping on board because everyone else is doing it, right? Yeah, it seems fun at first, but the question is, why the hell are you doing it? Every new generation seems to be about going along with the crowd instead of adopting critical thinking skills. Apparently using critical thinking skills is obsolete, nowadays; it's a new trend.

"Count to 500 before a mod posts", "Count to 600 before an admin posts"... lmfao, what the hell is this, bro?! ? No offense to the ones who created those threads, but it's just like, why though?? Every week, people are regurgitating the same garbage from these asinine posts, and it's ridiculous and insufferable. I'm telling you, man, no one seems to bat an eye to stop and ask why; they just go along with it.

Back in the old days of JV (2009), you wouldn't see too many ridiculous threads like this. Every week, I used to read the forums and there would be something interesting popping up. But, those were the golden ages of JV, just like PR2. Now, we have a boulder rolling down the hill that cannot be stopped. It's been reduced to useless threads that take up too much space. It's crowded with guests who are wondering why these people are wasting their time contributing to these silly ass threads.

I normally don't make threads like this, but I thought it needed to be addressed because I see this crap all the time. That's what makes me "Different" - I stand out amongst the crowd and choose not to participate and think like everybody else. If everyone were the same, then the world would be extremely boring.

If I should receive a strike, get censored, or get ridiculed for voicing my own opinion about these things, then you should ask yourself why you're logging on JV in the first place. If everyone posted interesting things like they used to (before COVID hit), then maybe JV wouldn't be on the massive verge of dying. All these current threads do is disparage the JV community.

I'm posting this information because I believe we can all do better; why do you log on JV in the first place? Think, people! One of the reasons people are leaving, or they don't log on anymore is because they're tired of seeing the same old garbage, every week!?? JV is long past its prime, partially because of these silly ass threads.

Premise - Dice get randomly generated into a prompt for you to make a story

(Using Rory's Story cubes via DaveBirss.com)

Goal - Write a short story that includes some of the randomly generated dice

My Part - Give you guys the cubes as well as give an optional writers twist

Your Part - You are not obligated to do anything tbh

Rules - Not much. You can interpret the images however you want. Please keep swearing to a minimum, and keep topics appropriate. I will hopefully be posting one of these at the start of every week, but if not, - er -, I dunno. Just use last week's prompt?

I wondered how I got here, looking at my watch, counting the seconds until my friend comes over to look at the bright ocean-blue waves over the steep, rocky edge. I had been planning to propose for a while now, waiting for the perfect point to do so. I had set up a picnic - Some sub-par hamburgers, and some ice-cold lemonade. I also had some plastic chairs in the back of my old 2008 Jeep waiting to be set up. I had the box in my pocket. I was ready.

They pulled up in their slightly newer Buick, and walked out, ruffling their hands through their dirty blonde hair, sticking their keys into their jean pocket. I sure hoped that I was ready. We hung out for a while, occasionally grasping the other’s hand. I backed off of my red-checkered blanket and knelt on my back leg. With all the strength I could muster, I fumbled for my box. It was in an uncomfortable spot between my shirt and my pants. I was already kneeling, and without the box in my hand, I couldn’t do anything. I sat there dumbfounded for a good 20 seconds and started to reach over my shoe to tie it, except it was already tied. I shifted over to my other shoe, which was also tied, and sat back down. Gladly, they hadn’t noticed it.

After another short while, my friend nudged me to go look at the waves with them. The light was dying, and the sunset was just turning an orange-ish tinted red. They walked behind me and whispered in my ear - I have something to ask - I turned around. They walked back a step and knelt with one leg. They brought out a box. I stood there for a while, and feeling something, knelt back too, with my box in my hand. We exchanged gifts, one a lavender felt, and another a furnished oak. I opened it. They did too. It wasn’t in sync, but each of us said the words, both feeling soft. We put the boxes in our pockets and watched the rest of the sunset fade.

Another One -

Bobby was a very, very affable 26-year-old. They wore a bobby pin on the left side of their hair and a flower on the other side. They also enjoyed going to the park, where there was a slide as well as a hamburger place across the street. One day Bobby was sliding down the slide, eating a hamburger, and wearing a bobby pin, when suddenly an anchor fell two feet away from them and hit their single mother. They were then diagnosed with depression and sat in an armchair every day, for the rest of their adult life.

See - It can be as serious or as goofy as you want; having as many or little words as you want.

Have fun. I will post the cubes each Monday and the prompt will go through the week. Feel free to use the ones from the last week as well. I will try to reply to as many people as possible at the end of the week. I also don't know if this should be a village game or a general discussion topic - either way, hope to see your replies.

I will hopefully post one by 1:00 P.M. PDT (3:00 on the forum) at the start of every week.

Hey, welcome to my RNG F@H Contest!

The rules are simple...

Just make a post saying you want to be entered.

When enough people have joined, the contest will start. You can't join once it has started!

Depending on how many people have joined, the prizes get better. I may add prizes for 2nd and 3rd place, for example.

Starting off, just the first place person will get 50 million F@H points on an account of their choosing.

If enough people have joined, the contest will start on Sunday, January 17th. 12:00 am CST

Now, about the contest...

Each day, I will randomly generate a number from 1-100 for each participant. These will act as points.

Whoever has the most points at the end of the contest wins!

Once the contest gets going, I will update this post with participants and their points.

If you win a prize and are folding alongside me, I'm folding up the points from the point you started at.

If you have say, 10 million F@H points, and win the top prize, I would fold that account to 60 million F@H points.

Hello all!

So, I don't know about the rest of you but I really like math. . . So every so often I will post a new puzzle that has a very interesting solution behind it. If people seem interested that I will keep on posting puzzles. There are not prizes besides the knowledge about our universe!

Puzzle 1:

Consider the following situation: Rolling a 5-of-a-kind with a total of five, six sided dice. each die has an equally fair chance of rolling a number between 1 through 6. The odds of rolling a 5-of-a-kind is equal to 1/1296 (or 6 desired outcomes to 7776 total outcomes).

While attempting to roll a 5-of-a-kind is unlikely it is not impossible, so attempting this over and over again will increase your chances of achieving this desired result. Now, lets suppose you took 1296 attempts to get a 5-of-a-kind. Since the odds are 1/1296 it is likely that you would have seen this result at least once. The first question is: What is the probability that you would have seen a 5-of-a-kind at least once in 1296 rolls.

This is a very interesting question because even with slim odds and a very large number of attempts you are still not guaranteed to see the desired result within the 1296 tries. This question is also interesting because it a question that considers the "Probability of Probabilities."

Question 2: Once you work out the solution to question 1, determine how many rolls will give you a 50% chance of seeing a 5-of-a-kind at least once. A 75% chance? a 99% chance?

Question 3: Lets consider you have a 1 in 'n' chance of a desired outcome (where n is an arbitrary whole number) and you had an 'n' amount of attempts to achieve the desired result. What happens as n gets really large (That would imply that the odds of a given outcome is getting smaller as 1/n goes to zero, but also, you are giving that event more chances at showing up with that larger number."
