Always been like this... People have suggested changing it a couple of times... I think it has to do with the opacity of the brush so some of the background color comes through.
Would adding an opacity slider fix the problem @bls1999 ?

those threads have spelling errors, so this video would fix all of those spelling errors from the threads you linked

From the little research I've done into the problem, I believe it has to do with how the art is rendered in the level editor and not with the art itself. Therefore, changing the transparency settings would mess with all existing levels.

could have an opacity slider per level
and all old levels have the default values
