real answer is scrolling and speed of conversation. theres probably something about how forums usually feel a little more intimate so people would feel bad about being mean and we all know that the modern internet is mostly rage bait. but to be fair i could just think that forums are more intimate BECAUSE of how small they usually are and bc i hardly ever used them before their decline.
joke answer is that everyone is stupid and not cool enough to realize that this is where the party's at!!

I think forums is still used but it’s mostly centralized to Reddit in the west. It’s easy to find most things you are into and mostly mobile.

Yeah I'd say Reddit mostly killed forums.

The convenience of having one account for millions of forums with consistent formats (subreddits) outweighs all of the downsides of reddit for most people.

That, and also Twitter. And also Discord, Mastodon, Telegram, ect. All of them are forum-likes with a more centralized, universal structure. The latter three has the advantage of having both forum-like features, but also acting as a live chat when needed.
