2026 FIFA World Cup
Cabo Verde played really well and should be proud of themselves. They gave us probably the best game of the World Cup.

Also. Rip Canada. Just trounced.

Honestly after seeing that idk how invested I can get again knowing that everything is prob gonna be worse than that lol
The own goal was so tragic though, I haven't felt "oof" like that since the 2021 Euros penalty shootout in the final

In the recent match, I heard that the ref was basically being the 12th man for Paraguay

Folarin Balogun is set to play tomorrow. FIFA just suspended the red card ban.

Brazil Vs Norway coming up at MetLife, *cough* NY NJ Stadium. Can Haaland row himself and Norway to the next round?

2nd penalty seemed a bit BS and a "let's give Neymar a goal" but game was basically over by then

One of the USA players (Balogun) got a red card, this usually means you're not allowed to play in the next game but it got suspended (so Balogun could play in the match against Belgium)
This is extremely abnormal and has only ever happened once before in 1962 (and I don't think cards were formal back then)
People say about Ronaldo at the start of this tournament, but that was both something from qualifying spilling over into the world cup being suspended and that was also controversial anyway
Trump was the one to ask the FIFA president to look at the red card ban and the FIFA president gave Trump some peace prize: "Prior to the draw, FIFA head Gianni Infantino presented the very first FIFA Peace Prize to U.S. President Donald Trump. FIFA stated that the award recognised his "involvement in ceasefire efforts and diplomatic engagements in several conflicts"." so he deffo has a positive relationship with Trump and a lot of people say this red card situation is favouritism

(Note a lot of people didn't agree with Balogun getting a red card, but to overturn it in such a way is seen as even worse, given other players from other countries have to deal with those kinda red cards)

Yeah no idea how the defender didn't stop it

Even that fourth goal had too much jerking around with the ball in the defensive third instead of dumping it away. Belgium was the better team, but there were way too many unforced errors by the United States.

Regarding Balogun, mentioned it in the Discord, but it is also slimy how a head of state outside of FIFA can just have influence like that on a decision. The Infantino-Trump phone call was probably followed by a wire transfer. Non-host and non-favorites like Colombia, Switzerland, and Egypt would probably not get that concession.

Yeah the commentators said the 3rd and 4th goals for Belgium were both bad from the USA when I watched

The whole red card situation is corrupt even for FIFA standards, which is surely saying something lol
