I'm a PC gamer so I don't have a super strong opinion.
There is legitimate reason to digitize stuff. Physical media breaks down, as much as people want to pretend it doesn't. CDs scratch very easily. Leaving CDs on the table for a small amount seem to causes micro scratches, probably from the vibrations of people walking around or something. My family still rents DVDs from the library sometimes and the odds that a DVD doesn't work is pretty high. Compared to using streaming services to watch movies, it doesn't seem worth the risk of using a potentially damaged disc.
I agree with you on one thing: You have to keep physical discs in pristine condition to avoid the game freezing and crashing. Yeah, I can understand that because I used to do the same thing with all of my games when it comes to “leaving them on the table” to get dusty. With digital, you’ll be less exasperated knowing that you don’t have to deal with that headache.
On the other hand, there’s just something special and nostalgic about having a tangible piece of history in your hand. Just knowing that if your files were to get wiped out, or Sony deletes them just like they did everyone’s movies, you won’t lose any money with the physical copy. I grew up as a 90s kid where we valued things that were more tangible above anything else.

I wish the StopKillingGames movement would take off and there were more neutral services like Itch.io and GOG, where if the services failed you could still play the game. I feel like hackers will probably still find ways to revive games, like how PR3 Reborn is technically a hacked copy of PR3 since the platform it was on failed.
I agree 100% because at that point it’ll feel like you’re renting the game instead of owning it. The problem is that these major businesses and corporations are greedy, they want control, and they want you groveling for them to provide you with games, period. They figured if you get hooked on games long enough, then they could do whatever they want. So, I think as long as they have a handful of gamers who will spend an abundance of money on things like “ultimate edition for GTA 6”, then I’m sure they’ve figured they’ll make a massive profit on switching to digital only. Plus they don’t want us to own anything.

I love physical, but digital is often convenient.
Not having an option feels disappointing and disrespectful to gamers.
I agree because not everyone likes to be restricted to only one option to play games. Digital was cool when they did the special dlc editions, but now it’s becoming the norm. Corporations are getting greedier too with these insane prices just for digital.
