I really enjoyed GGP Deluxe. I think it showcased a lot of incredible racing levels and helped me take my speedrunning skills to the next level.
I think this contest makes earning prizes pretty easy. There are only 44 levels to play, and the times you need to earn points to unlock the prizes aren't really that difficult. When you have Trial and Error that has 150 levels, most of which are very, very difficult and out of reach for anyone who is average or worse at the game, GGP Deluxe is probably one of the easiest contests you can play to earn prizes.
Someone managed to finish the entire contest in 4 weeks!
Also, the mystery prize is the Gecko Set.
I primarily did the contest to earn the Artifact Hat. Even though it's quite useless, I mainly see it as a trophy that shows that you've done something amazing in PR2.
As for the difficulty, it would be okay if the contest was run 10 years ago, but now when everyone in the PR2 community is a pro, I'd say it's a bit too easy. Maybe it was designed to be a bit easier because of the constraints like only being able to attempt each Cup once per day, but I think that constraint massively reduces the appeal of the contest.
If you were in the Discord server, you would have seen the insane amount of activity and discussion around Trial and Error which is a much longer and harder contest. Maybe people find frusting more fun, but even then, there have been way more Trial and Error participants than GGP Deluxe participants.
Maybe GGP Deluxe could be redesigned to be like T&E where there are 100 or more levels, each with a single challenging time to beat, with unlimited attempts allowed. If people like the challenge of playing very difficult frusts, maybe they will also enjoy the skill-pushing challenge of speedrunning a level to death.
