Tell (Archaeology) - Noun
A term for an artificial mound formed by multiple human settlements being built atop one another. Often these settlements were made from materials that erode quickly, like mudbrick, sandstone, rammed earth, or adobe. Other times the settlements were made of lasting materials, but were destroyed by natural disaster or human intervention. After one of those settlements was destroyed, another may be built atop it, only to suffer the same fate later, forming a massive hill.
