Because these people are braindead idiots who live in the past and can't see true innovation. These people are the reason why good progress is so slow in the world.
If they want productivity so bad they can install a tracker of some sort on the work from home device you use (you personally basically already have this in terms of them seeing how much money you make).
If they want team bonding so bad, they can just make a day or two where everyone has to be in.
There are so many pros to working from home on a lot of days (for the company!) such as:
- Less office space required. You can either downsize (saving costs) or hire more people (without additional office space cost).
- Bigger talent pool to draw from. If you're fine with having people who work from home a lot more often, you can hire people who live quite far away, increasing the talent pool.
- Lower cleaner costs. You don't have to hire as many cleaners for as many hours as if everyone was in the office all the time.
- Fewer reasons (and lower likelihood) for people to be late. Even if they give discipline for being late, it's way easier to be on time when all you have to do is turn on a computer than to go commute through rush hour traffic.
- Less spread of disease (resulting in higher productivity). If you feel slightly ill, but well enough to work (and well enough for your boss to think you can work), then you can still work without spreading the disease to other people (which would otherwise end up lowering productivity because lots of people will be ill).
