I personally am not bothered by it. I have a high tolerance for cringy stuff. But others could be.

Considering that Bubsy was originally inspired by characters like Bugs Bunny, I don't see why this aspect of him was necessary to add.

He had plenty of personality and it was not necessary to craft him a new one.

Other than that, his character is one minded.

He is a self-deprecative "old man" kind of character. Where he just wants to sit at home and relax, but his family and friends keep dragging him into action.

He constantly jokes about not wanting to go deal with the bosses.

And yes the game does use the term bosses sometimes. It likes to break the fourth wall. Another sign of lazy writing.

The worlds are kind of generic, but attractive.

There is no attempt to make the worlds feel lived-in or immersive. They are worlds where platforms and objects float in space and are strewn around aimlessly.
