For what it’s worth for the artifact hat, it’s essentially worthless.

🌵GGP THOUGHTS 🌵🤔

What do you guys think about the Goliathe Grand Prix Deluxe? For what it’s worth (in regards to the prizes and all), do you think it was worth your time and effort, or could it have been orchestrated better? Now obviously when I played and beaten all the levels, 9 years ago, things were different; there was no “mystery prize” available during that time. Idk even know what the “mystery prize” is.

For me, I thought it was way too many levels to go through for a hat that only survives in the game for 30 seconds. Some of you might say that it’s a useless item, and I’m on board with you. Others might say that it’s a neat little artifact to have on their accounts, which I can understand that.

Ultimately, although it was very challenging at the time, someone is going to swear out that it wasn’t challenging enough. Which is exactly why I’ve got something big planned for the future of Platform Racing 4. You see, this is because it really speaks to me when someone says that it wasn’t challenging enough, or the prize wasn’t worth it. Guys, I don’t play around. I may not be able to draw as well as people like @~JBG~ but I can certainly point you in the right direction with my creative ideas.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on the GGP tournament?

Arti is basically a flex hat so it makes sense that it's difficult to get via competition
In terms of new GGP I haven't played it yet, I've only played the old one (limited runs a day did make it so it rewarded consistency but it was also very stressful)

Yes, I agree because you literally had to wait until the next day to have your runs refilled. Nowadays, I think it’s just easier than it used to be; especially the “mystery prize”.

I really enjoyed GGP Deluxe. I think it showcased a lot of incredible racing levels and helped me take my speedrunning skills to the next level.

I think this contest makes earning prizes pretty easy. There are only 44 levels to play, and the times you need to earn points to unlock the prizes aren't really that difficult. When you have Trial and Error that has 150 levels, most of which are very, very difficult and out of reach for anyone who is average or worse at the game, GGP Deluxe is probably one of the easiest contests you can play to earn prizes.

Someone managed to finish the entire contest in 4 weeks!
Also, the mystery prize is the Gecko Set.

I primarily did the contest to earn the Artifact Hat. Even though it's quite useless, I mainly see it as a trophy that shows that you've done something amazing in PR2.

As for the difficulty, it would be okay if the contest was run 10 years ago, but now when everyone in the PR2 community is a pro, I'd say it's a bit too easy. Maybe it was designed to be a bit easier because of the constraints like only being able to attempt each Cup once per day, but I think that constraint massively reduces the appeal of the contest.

If you were in the Discord server, you would have seen the insane amount of activity and discussion around Trial and Error which is a much longer and harder contest. Maybe people find frusting more fun, but even then, there have been way more Trial and Error participants than GGP Deluxe participants.

Maybe GGP Deluxe could be redesigned to be like T&E where there are 100 or more levels, each with a single challenging time to beat, with unlimited attempts allowed. If people like the challenge of playing very difficult frusts, maybe they will also enjoy the skill-pushing challenge of speedrunning a level to death.

To add to what has been said by @Master Raiden already, the contest went through a few different concepts and formats over the years (since June 2013 actually, it's been a while hehe). The goal was always to reward RACING in a game called Platform Racing 2 via competition, not only against others, but also in regards of improving your own skills.

Now I'm not saying the current mold is perfect (I know I probably still have to embellish the info page @EpicMidget don't worry Tongue). Back in the day, even with 12 judges across mutliple timezones to witness runs, it would still take sometimes 2-3 hours daily to get everything done. And then we ran into the problems and scandals, so the forum solution is what I came up with to avoid most cheating cases and facilitate archiving at the same time.

As for the content of the contest, I tried to put myself in the shoes of a relatively new beginner who had to take on the challenge after completing the campaign, maybe. Yes, there are tougher goals to achieve as you progress, but the first few tiers of target times and medals are reachable for the average skilled enjoyer of the game. And the tournament stats makes it so it's not about glitch/stat knowledge, but pure racing lines and execution.

The daily attempt per cup might be an old relic, I agree with some arguments that have been made against it over the years (it used to be even worse, now you could even beat the whole contest in one day theoritically), but I've always viewed the other side of the coin: this contest has roots in speedrunning and racing, where you often only get 1 real chance to show all the preparation and practice you've put into it. After that it's a reset and a new run to begin later, but if you succeed, it's a little extra rewarding.

Is GGPD a bit tedious ? Could it be tougher ? Could it be way longer ? Yep, but I'm not sure it would forge the same consistency and skill it does now if you had unlimited attempts at a harsher goal on hundreds of levels. Maybe if the intention of the contest was to push speedrunning in this game to greater extents, but like I said before I prefer to view it as the next step after campaign, and an entry point to greater skill.

Feel free to suggest modifications or share extra concerns though, I've never been closed to those things. Even if it's for a future community PR4 edition, or ideas for a sister contest that would be more difficult.
If you're reading this, it means I have not made a cool signature yet and you should be proud of yourself.
