my mother worked in reinsurance broking from the early 1990s until not too long after 9/11, mostly in Sydney. in September of 2001 she was actually due to go to New York for conferences, though I'm unsure of whether it would've been in the WTCs or not. she ended up going to London instead.

she told me that she'd often have daily chats over the phone with workers in NYC, oftentimes those working for Aon in the South Tower. as a result, some victims of the attacks were friends of hers. to this day my mother remembers every name.
