Speedrun Guide

Hello Platform Racing 2ers

I think it would be nice if we had a little sheet that had some useful information on ideal stats/strategies when choosing stats for maps.

First | Stats ending in 5 are bad and should not be used (eg. 95, 85, 75 etc.) Believe it or not 86 speed = 94 speed. When you accelerate fully you have the same top speed so you do not need to waste 8 extra stat points for the same speed value.

Second | Optimize your jump values! nice easy ones like 54 jump cannot exceed a 5 block high wall (without glitching) so 54 jump can get you over a 4 block high wall but so can 45 jump so you can save 9 stat points there.

Third | Misconception** You can corner glitch anywhere!!! You're Next intended position needs to be more than 10 pixels vertically and horizontally into the block you are moving towards (this does include upward directions).

This is super important because being flexibile with your stats can help you set up a glitch that skips a large portion of a map without having TAS-like button pushing skills. @bi3liu

Fourth | Santa gives you +10 speed and it makes the block beneath you solid. Use that to your advantage.

To name a few examples

Fifth | Rank does not equal skill. A rank 50 player does not have a big advantage over someone who is rank 0. Just optimizing stats, map strategies, and practice it what makes good times. (Map strategies includes finding stats to use that make doing really hard glitches easy).

Feel free to add any of your own personal ideas for speedrunning or strategies you use!

When you say stats ending with 5 are bad and 86spd = 94spd
does that mean 86spd = 95spd

nope. 95's top speed is the same as 96's top speed but it takes a heck of a lot of frames to accelerate to that top speed. You would simply be better off going with 86 speed than 95 in that case because of how much more acceleration you can put towards your player.

but if 95=96
then won't 85=86 and so you should go 85

85 speed has the same max speed as 86 speed but it takes so long to accelerate to 85's max speed you are just better off with using 76 speed

I'll attempt an explanation of this too, but xd:
The acceleration increases your TotalVelocity at an almost constant rate, however, the speed you are actually going lags behind the TotalVelocity, and you slowly catch up. The speed value you are using determines how high your TotalVelocity can be, and you usually hit that limit fairly quickly. However, when you use 85 speed, although your TotalVelocity may be 85 speed, you are usually are stuck at 84.99 speed for quite a while. (You do eventually do reach 85 speed) The reason why you would want to reach 85 speed is because you go the same speed at any speed value from 85 to 94.99 speed. (and from 75 to 84.99, 65 to 74.99, etc)

Sometimes I even find it better off to use 87/88 or even 89 speed, because it still takes some time to reach 85 speed with 86. Though at that point it might be more preference, and which stats work better for the map, because the time save is almost negligible.
But yea, I don't usually use speed values that end in 5 (for racing at least)

Pretty hard to explain this concept, so it might be better to see for yourself inside a tas..
