The Spaceship (Story / RP)
#1
This is a story and an RP. I will write a story and you posters can participate in it.
(Think of it like an experimental TTRPG game. I am the GM.)

The story in one sentence:
You awaken in what seems to be "the future", on a spaceship, with no memory of your past, and you are now expected to integrate into this unfamiliar, yet familiar, society.

The Rules

Joining

In order to join all you have to do is:
  1. Say you want to.
  2. Create Character.
After that you will be added in. (I will write how - Probably the same way as everyone else.)

Note: You don't have to have read any of the previous story to join since your character knows nothing anyways. Of course, knowing more will help you figure out what you want to do with your character though.

Character Creation

Everyone will awake as an amnesiac. Therefore, Do Not Create a Backstory. You do not know your character's backstory, if they have one at all.

Create a Name. Preferably a Legal Name:
(First Name + Surname. Ex: Jon Doe / Jane Doe)

Create an Appearance and Characteristics:
  1. Sex / Gender (As Vague as You Want)
  2. Age (Approximate)
  3. Cosmetic Stuff: Skin Tone, Eye Color, Hair, Hair Color, Body Type, Tall/Short, Body Markings, ect.
  4. Disabilities/Special Abilities: Bad Eyesight/Good Eyesight, Paraplegic/Limp, Severe Color Blindness, Hypermobility, ect.

For simplicity's sake, let's say you can only be a Human.

To Participate

You perform whatever you want to. No restrictions. (Just don't break forum rules.) If rules need to be invented we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Try to match other posters' energy. I will try my best as well.

About Not Participating

Let's say you choose to not post, or you forget to post, or you miss a bit, or you quit forever, or quit temporarily: Don't worry! There is no expectation to participate. If you do not act in a time appropriate manner, your character will simply be idle. In lore this is known as "Sudden Sleep Disorder", or in other words, "your character spontaneously fell asleep", probably while standing. (More explained in story/lore.)

Disclaimers

The story will include various dark themes from time to time: IE. Death, Murder, Basic Gore, ect. Participate at your own discretion if you have triggers. I also will likely use swears occasionally.

Additionally, I, as the gamemaster, am fallible. I may misinterpret your intents and actions and may make your character behave differently than how you would expect.

Also, I am making this semi-spontaneously. I have no idea how little/much traction this will get, so I have not planned too far ahead, so bare with my skills or lack thereof please.

Everything Must One Day End

Everything gets boring. Everything has a perfect time to die for dramatic effect. At some point, potentially never, the story/scenario may end. Also, at some point prior to this, I may decide to permanently "kill off" your character.

There's a strong chance this might never happen, that we never get this far, but just know that it can happen, and if this goes on infinitely, it will. After a story/scenario ends permanently, a new one will be created with different circumstances.

If your character gets killed off permanently, you are allowed to make a new one. Also, if you want to see your character be permanently killed off, either because you want a new character, or because you want to quit, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

FAQ

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.
Any comments or suggestions let me know.

The Spaceship

Over the Intercom - A Robotic Male Voice:
"A New Member: Sonny Sunlight has awakened."

A sleek, white-painted, titanium pod releases steam. At the front of it, a curved door with an opaque sky-blue window glides out and upwards, like a moth wing emerging from a cocoon. As it does, the dark interior is revealed along with the body situated inside. They are a pale man, unconscious, with long, tangled, brown hair. Then, the chamber brightens with deep marine-colored neon lights inside.

For a second, the blinding lights pierce his eyes as he comes to. His crusty eyes flutter open gently.

Sonny Sunlight:
"W-Wuh... Where am I?" are his first words upon his rebirth. He pulls himself up out of the pod. White fluorescent lights and boring off-white greets him. Sonny takes note that the room has many, many, more pods. Most of them are closed, but various random ones are open.

At the far wall of the room, what appears as a young adult, pink-haired, female, nurse behind a windowed desk meets eyes with Sonny. She then opens the door between the win-desk and the chamber room.

She approaches with gray clothes in hand for Sonny and an awkward smile on her face.

(im unsure if i should write for your pink haired character in this message so i wont and will just introduce my character)
Another pod somewhere else hisses open, Inside is Beatrix Montgomery. Bea to most. She is a tall middle-aged woman with reddish-brown skin. Her sleek black hair is braided and lays against her back.
As Bea comes to she scans the room with dark sunken eyes, she's far too confused to speak. She puts on a strong face to hide her fear and confusion.
(this is already pretty fun!)

Tbh I expected you to just describe what you wanna do instead of write the story.
Except for like when your character is talking (speech) since you kind of have to say exactly what you want to say.
You can write like that if you want though. I might have to change things around to fit the narrative.

The Spaceship

After the woman approaches the man, she sticks her hands out. On her right hand are a large pile of grey jumpsuits. On her left hand are a pile of... Also grey jumpsuits? Except they look a bit more frilly? It is difficult to discern the difference. She looks as though she hopes Sonny will take one, but he does not seem to be reacting whatsoever. He just continues to stare.

The Pink-Haired Woman:
"Do you want to...?" she asks as she continues to offer the items, waggling them a bit, while her eyes dart between the clothes and the man. "Oh... Um.. Right."

She stacks the clothing on top of each other in order to pull out a booklet.

The Pink-Haired Woman:
Reading from the booklet, she begins, "Hello there! I am insert name here-... Errr... Opps." she closes her eyes and stops for a second. "I mean... Let me just start over, okay?..."

The Pink-Haired Woman:
"Hello there! I am Jesika, your greeter. And we or I depending on how ma-... um..." she pauses to gather herself. "We... I welcome you to the UTSS 15. The current year is 2225 and you have just emerged from one of our state-of-the-art cryogenic chambers, trademarked as Caissons. You may be confused about many things, but it is important to remember to take things slowly! There is plenty of time to ask all and any questions that you have, and all will be answered appropriately, but we at UnionTransit ask that you first clothe yourself with one of the garments provided, as well as attach your ID Badge, before anything else. This is because-"

Sonny Sunlight:
  "What?" interrupts Sonny.

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
She halts reading and raises her eyes. "Er- Well... Well, you are naked." she mentions, while trying to look away. "One of these is a jumpsuit and the other is a jumpskirt. They are both one-pieces, they cover your top and bottom. I am supposed to let you choose which you would prefer."

Over the Intercom - A Robotic Male Voice:
"A New Member: Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery has awakened."

The Caisson, the cryo-pod, behind Jesika begins to hisses open. The pod door opening hits Jesika in the back unexpectedly, shocking her, and causing her to fall forward onto her knees. The clothes she was holding all go flying. One grey jumpsuit lands in the hands of Sonny.

The woman inside, Beatrix Montgomery, is revealed. She is a tall, middle-aged woman with reddish-brown skin. Her sleek, black hair is braided and lays against her back. As Bea comes to she scans the room with dark sunken eyes, she's far too confused to speak. She puts on a strong face to hide her fear and confusion.

Out of modesty, Sonny puts on the jumpsuit.

Jesika grabs the first set of clothing she finds on the ground. It turns out to be a jumpskirt, but she doesn't notice.

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
"H-Here," she pushes the jumpskirt it to Beatrix Montgomery. "I'm sorry it's ruffled, I-I accidentally dropped it. I-" she stops mid-sentence seeing the terror on Bea's face before realizing that she needs to read from the pamphlet to Beatrix... But she lost it. Wherever that pamphlet is, possibly under one of the crumbled mess of clothes on the floor, it's gone for now. Instead, she improvises. Clasping her hands together she says, "IIII wel-come youuu tooo the ship! Please put your clothes on. Please put your clothes on first and then I and others will answer any questions. Oh shoot- I'm supposed to let you choose..." She picks up a ruffled grey jumpsuit off the ground.

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
"So... Would you prefer a jumpskirt? Or a jumpsuit? They only come in gray sadly..." and then she remembers to say something to both Sonny and Beatrix. "Oh! And both of your ID-cards are in the back of the cryo-pods. Remember to take it out and attach it to your clothes!"

(ah i see, i'll continue to write what she says and does since its easier for me to do it that way)

Bea, realizing she is naked in front of people, moves with urgency. She grabs the jumpskirt from Jesika's hands unfolding it. Her face morphs to one of disgust and disappointment seeing as the skirt wouldn't cover herself as much as she would like. She holds the jumpskirt against her body to cover herself for the moment.
"Jumpsuit." she states her tone unintentionally harsh, her demeanor temporally softens when she realizes her rudeness.
"Er.. Please." she corrects.
As Jesika walks away to fetch the jumpsuit, Bea contorts herself to try and grab her ID-card from behind her without turning around and exposing herself again. Groping blindly she grabs hold of it and brings it forward to look at it.

Sorry if I'm being too wordy with this. I guess the exposition is a bit longer than I anticipated.

The Spaceship

Bea, realizing she is naked in front of people, moves with urgency. She grabs the jumpskirt from Jesika's hands unfolding it. Her face morphs to one of disgust and disappointment seeing as the skirt would not cover herself as much as she would like. She holds the jumpskirt against her body to cover herself for the moment.

Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery:
"Jumpsuit," she states, her tone unintentionally harsh. Her demeanor temporarily softens when she realizes her rudeness. "Er.. Please," she corrects.

Skittishly, Jesika hesitates a bit, but ultimately trades the jumpskirt for the jumpsuit.

With Jesika there, Bea continues to shield herself with the clothes instead of putting it on immediately. She contorts herself to try and grab her ID-card from behind herself, trying hard not to turn around and exposing herself again behind her jumpsuit cover. Groping blindly, she grabs hold of it and brings it forward to look at it.

The ID-Card:
  Name: [Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery]
  Job Title: [Assistant]
  Stationed: [UTSS-15]

The card is glossy, smooth, sturdy, and plastic. It is wide and rectangular like most ID-cards, yet it has no photograph of yourself like some IDs. In the middle is all of the textual information. On the left-hand side there is a large square with holographic art emerging out of it. It is pixel art of... Just a capital A? Quite plain for what it could be. On the right-hand side there is a complex collection of lines, digital looking, like a miniature labyrinth, and a strip of bright yellow on the edge. The back contains only a small hole.

On the jumpsuit is a small stud. It is located in a small rectangular indentation. It matches the ID perfectly.

Just then, A low synthetic buzz rings. It sounds cold and throaty like a robot trying to vocalize "rejected", or "denied", or just "no". Both Bea and Jesika turn to face the source. A large mechanical door with flashing red lights is the culprit. Standing in front of it is Sonny. Each time he tries to approach the door, it buzzes "no".

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
"Um. Sorry!" she yells to him, "I forgot to tell you, in order to leave, you need to fasten your ID card to your jumpsuit," she walks over to him, "I can show you if you'd like. And-And- I still have more I need to read!"

Sonny Sunlight:
"I don't want to hear from a booklet. I want to hear from whoever's in charge around here," he said as he clicked his ID card. As he steps towards the door, the lights turn green and the blips ring out - This time with acceptance. Being of two pieces, a top and bottom interlocking like teeth of a gear, the two parts slid open quickly. Despite uncertainty, Sonny continues through.

With Jesika distracted, Bea manages to slip into her jumpsuit. A nice fit - Except for the lack of shoes. She exits the cryo-pod carefully, trying not to step on anything.

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
Jesika turns back to Bea and grins earnestly, "You look nice in that." She exhales and sighs. Clasping her hands together she begins, "I don't know if you're thinking the same thing he is but... Listen, You two are my first greetees. I don't really know how to greet people yet. The last person who had this job quit because one of the wakers, like yourself, was so angry about their amnesia that they decided to fight him... He got hurt pretty bad. And he was pretty angry about it. And honestly, it's an understandable reaction. I remember what it was like when I woke up in this room. I was pretty scared. And disoriented. Having the booklet read to me didn't help me at all. I would rather have had someone talk to someone sincerely."

Jesika gestures Bea to follow her and she complies - What other choice is there? They walk towards the door. Jesika holds her hand out and asks for Bea's ID card. She gives it. Jesika stands in front of the door holding the ID card out. The door turns green, chimes, and opens. Then she presses the ID card into Bea's jumpsuit.

Jesika and Bea both step through the doors, going from the sterile white-walled room into a much smaller room. The walls and floor are an unpainted matte metal. There is a rack of shoes of many different sizes, all of them black sneakers, all the same make. In fact, they even match Jesika's shoes, despite her white nurse outfit. On the wall above the shoe rack is a minimalist vector art poster of a man heroically raising a crowbar with the phrase "Hold Station!" on it. There is another door on the other side of the room.

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
"Outside the next door is one of the ship's main hallways. It's usually a fairly nice place. People here are... Fairly diverse. Some are gentle - some are rude. Nobody will really have any reason to be too rude to an assistant, which is what you are currently. If anybody is unkind, just tell them that you are new, they'll get it. When you exit, go right and you will end up at the cafeteria. You'll see a lot of people there and they can give you directions to the rest of the ship. If you have questions there are others out there who can answer it better than I can. The Head of Personnel is who you want to find. They will answer your most important questions and get you adjusted. There are also a few on-board psychologists in case you feel particularly troubled."

The Pink-Haired Woman - Jesika:
"I... I could tell you more, but... It's better if you see the real thing. That way you won't have to believe that I'm exaggerating, or lying, or manipulating you," giving Bea an empathetic look, "Do you have any questions for me though? I can answer a few before you go... And make sure you put your shoes on of course."

As soon as she saw the shoes Bea side stepped away from Jesika and began the struggle to put on the shoes while still standing up. Occasionally she would nod to Jesika letting her know she was still listening.
(skip to the end of Jesika's last line)
Eventually she gets her shoes on, she straightens back up and smooths her jumpsuit out. She turns toward Jesika.
"Is this real?" Bea asks feeling her calm act begin to crack under the weight of the circumstances.
"Actually don't answer that, I don't think I would like the answer either way" She turns on her heel and walks up to the next door before turning to look at Sonny.
"Any bets on what they'll tell us, kid?" she grins finding the situation strangely comedic in a twisted way.
" 'Welcome to the station, now get to work' " she chuckles lightly.

If I ever mess up at all let me know.
I'm double checking it, but I feel like I still have a strong chance of me messing up.

The Spaceship

While Jesika was talking, Bea side-stepped towards the shoe rack and began to try on shoes. She chose to do so while continuing to stand, which posed a struggle. Occasionally, she would nod at Jesika, to let her know she was still listening. Sonny, on the other hand, was sitting on the ground, still trying out shoe sizes determining one that would work well. Eventually he did. He seemed to be listening despite not showing any reaction nor adding any input.

---

Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery:
Eventually she gets her shoes on, she straightens back up and smooths her jumpsuit out. She turns toward Jesika. "Is this real?" Bea asks. She begins to feel her calm act being to crack under the weight of the circumstances. "Actually, don't answer that, I don't think I would like the answer either way." She turns on her heel and walks up to the next door before turning to look at Sonny.

Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery:
"Any bets on what they'll tell us, kid?" she grins, finding the situation strangely comedic in a twisted way. "They tell us, 'Welcome to the station, now get to work,' " she says while lightly chuckling.

Sonny Sunlight:
"I don't know, but I know that I'm going right away to ask questions. I'm going to go first. It's only right since I woke up first—and I want to do it alone, if they'll let me. I'm sorry, but I don't know you yet, and we'll get better answers if we ask separately anyways," he rises from sitting immediately. Standing shorter than Bea, he tries to meet her eyes briefly, almost poised to shake her hand, but does not. Sonny leaves the room first and abandons the other two.

As the door closes, Bea looks back at Jesika, hands still clasped in front of herself, standing upright, and with a tired smile. Jesika nods at Bea before Bea makes the first strides to the door. Upon approach, the door automatically opens—The first door that Bea has opened so far. She advances through. The door closes and leaves Jesika behind, though it seems likely she will stay posted there.

As Bea enters the next room she cannot help but stop to take note of the unfamiliar environment. This room is quite large. 'One of the ship's main hallways' is what Jesika called it, didn't she? From one wall to another is perhaps the same length as a three-lane-road. It is quite boring looking. All of the floors are paneled tiles, all of the ceilings are paneled. Even the walls are paneled, though it is a different type, metal and sturdy-looking, with screws that keep them in place. Tube lights light the entire hall. It's all just grey with some basic texture on the tiling. Nothing seems particularly glossy or polished.

The monotony of the architecture is broken with occasional decorative alcoves. Looking at the other wall, you spot the following: In one alcove, to the left of your vision, is a blue vending machine and a green vending machine side by side. No idea what they say. To the right of that is another 'door', much like the one you exited. To the right of that is another alcove where there are two metal cabinets, one painted blue, the other painted red.

Near the red cabinet is an elderly man. His hand is pressed flat against the door of the red, metal cabinet. He's staring at you currently with dead eyes. He's a light-skinned man and his face is dotted with liver spots. He has a scraggly grey beard and head hair. His attire is that of a purple jumpsuit with grey overalls, bright yellow galoshes and gloves, and also a purple pillbox cap with a brim. He has a janitorial cart with a large water bucket and large trash bags. He takes his hand off of the cabinet door suddenly. Slowly he grabs his mop off the cart and begins mopping the floor. As he does, he stops looking at you, only looking at the floor.

To the right is where Jesika said was "the cafeteria", though it is not clear how long the hallway goes on for. To the left the hallway hits a wall, then branches into two smaller hallways. There is also no evidence of where Sonny has gone, except that he certainly is gone.

Just then—You hear an extremely high-pitched masculine voice scream out, "HELLLLLLLLLLP MEEEEEEE!!! HE'S GOING TO GET ME!!!" The sound is coming from behind the 'door' on the other side of the hall. The old man seems to perk up a bit upon hearing it, when he looks at you to see if you had heard it too, he does not seem too concerned. He gives you a nonchalant shrug before continuing to mop. "HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPP MEEEEEE!!! HELP! HELP!! HELPPP!!! HEEEEELPPP MEEEEEE!!" continues the voice behind the door.

(im not sure what you mean by messing up but i'll let you know, also the old man's outfit reminds me of the janitors on ss13 not sure if that intentional hehe)
Bea scowls at the old man before walking away, she thinks to herself
'You'd think someone his age would have learned to not stare by now.'

Bea finds herself walking towards the door with the screaming behind it, she tries to calculate what's behind the door with the limited information she has.
'No one else seems disturbed by this, maybe it's something that happens often but not on a set schedule which would explain the janitor being startled.' She stops a few feet in from of the door shifting her weight onto one foot while she continues to think.
'Then again these people could all be completely heartless and don't care for their fellows.' She places her hand on her chin
'Or it could be that something is behind that door that they know isn't to be trusted, like some kind of mimic.. Could also be that the person in there should've known to stay away and are now a lost cause.'
She sighs, realizing shes clearly over thinking this and should just go to the Head of Personnel to clear up this whole amnesia thing. She turns on her heels and continues to the HoP.

Uhhh I completely accidentally saved over this entire part of the story on accident because I was sleepy. Opps...

A short summary:
Bea walks until the end of the hall, where it forks into 3 paths. She doesn't know where the Head of Personnel is. She can go to any room to ask someone where he is. There's lots of people everywhere, though none of them are named or described in any detail. She takes notes of all of the different rooms. Some have blue plaques that describe them like "HOLY" or "CUST".

Here's the map at least:

I do not know if it's possible for me to undo this or if I have to rewrite it.

(haha omg yeah i love ss13, i play goonstation morty mostly, i dont play often since the rounds are long. im not too immersed in the community of goonstation so if you make references to stuff that is related to something someone did in a round in like 2011 i probably wont know what your referencing. i'm still gonna be playing like i dont know anything so i wont do any meta gaming dw. also i dont know where the HoP is on any map so my outside knowledge will not be helping me here LMAO)

Bea clenches her jaw in frustration.
'Damn kid had to run off leaving me to find my own way. I have half a mind to throttle that son of a *****.' She takes a deep breath
'Ok calm the hell down Beatrix, the kid probably didn't think about it he just wants answers like you do.' She massages the back of her neck trying to relax.

Bea surveys her options, she knows she's going to have to ask for help seeing as navigating the ship by herself would be a nightmare. She figures that she would rather have someone to walk her to her destination. Although she wouldn't want to admit it she could really use some company at the moment. Waking up and not knowing anything would shake anybody up.
After thinking for a moment she determines that the chefs are busy, it's rude to ask someone to drop what they are doing to help you so that marks the rest of the people in the cafeteria and the people in the bar off the list. She takes a few steps back to the gardening room and looks back at the previously sooty person. In her infinite wisdom she deems that if he's got enough time to worry about appearances for some random woman he's never seen before then he should have enough time to walk her to the HoP.

She saddles up to the window desk and knocks on the glass hoping to get any of the gardener's attentions.

(cant help but smile reading the story and recognizing a bunch of elements haha, its still pretty creative. the map is a nice touch!)

Oh fug I accidentally just overwrote my last post.
I sure hope it's possible to undo edits on JV/bbcode.

If not, at least I get to write it better a 2nd time.

The Spaceship

Bea clenches her jaw in frustration.

"Damn kid had to run off leaving me to find my own way. I have half a mind to throttle that son of a *****." She takes a deep breath. "Ok calm—the hell—down Beatrix, the kid probably didn't think about it. He just wants answers like you do." She massages the back of her neck trying to relax.

Bea surveys her options, she knows she's going to have to ask for help. Navigating the ship by herself would be a nightmare. She figures that she would rather have someone to walk her to her destination. Although she would not want to admit it, she could really use some company at the moment. Waking up and not knowing anything would shake anybody up.

After thinking for a moment, she determines that the chefs are busy. It is rude to ask someone to drop what they are doing just to help. Most of the people in the cafeteria and the people in the bar also seemed busy, so that marks them off the list. She takes a few steps back to the gardening room and looks at the previously sooty person. In her infinite wisdom she deems that if he's got enough time to worry about appearances, for some random woman he's never seen before, then he should have enough time to walk her to the HoP.

She saddles up to the window desk. She knocks on the glass hoping to get any of the gardeners’ attention. Previously there were, Bea thinks, three people gardening? Now she only counts two. Inside, there are electric trays with soil and plants or other flora growing in each one. There are too many types of plants to assess.

The dirty man with a perm sees Beatrix. He's younger than Beatrix, but looks older than his coworkers. Perhaps in his 30s or so. Decently light skinned to olive skinned beneath the soot. Has a chiseled face with sharp facial features and about the same height as Beatrix. He wipes the soil off of his arms with his as he notices Bea's rapping.

Female Gardner:
"You don't need to get so deep in there with your hands George, just pour it in and be done with it." says his coworker, an eastern woman.

The Sooty Gardner - George:
"Eh I know, I know. I just want to be extra careful. Make sure it's working exactly," replies George.

Female Gardner:
"It's not an exact science, besides, you will damage the roots on those mushrooms."

The Sooty Gardner - George:
"Look, enough right now, we got company." He raises his hand to try to comb through his hair before realizing how dirty his hands are. He winces knowing he won't be able to. He slides open the window-desk and asks Bea, "What's up?"

Female Gardner:
The female gardener butts in, "You're supposed to say: Welcome to hydroponics, how may we help you?" She shoulders George away. George cedes easily. It seems like he must be used to this by now. "You are here on the Captain's behalf?"

Beatrix explains that no, she is not, and that she is looking for the Head of Personnel's office. She also inquires if someone could walk her there personally.

Female Gardner:
"Well, I have to tend to these plants. They grow so fast that if they aren't being watched for more than a half hour some of them could die. I also don't know what George here is going to do with them. I'll describe it to you instead of leading you there, okay?." She pulls a pad of paper from under the win-desk and scribbles down instructions as she talks, "Just go down the hall towards the Cafeteria, then when the hallway forks, go left. After that, keep going until it forks right. Then you'll be at the bridge. First win-desk there is the HoP's." But as she looks at Beatrix, she notices Beatrix looking confused and even a bit peeved. "Ah, I think I get it. Walking down this hallway, still an assistant, asking for directions—You must be new here. My name's Midna. This is George. Early you walked by and must have seen-" She turns her head.

A door in the back of the room opens and a third coworker walks in. She's wearing the same clothes, but something seems a bit off about her. In a split-second an uncanny valley creeps and it takes a moment to register for Bea. Bea's eyes widen and she stares intently at this... Creature? Coming through the door is a human-sized mothperson. She is carrying a metal box in her hand with a seal: HYDR + Flower Symbol. She seems... Scared? Or perhaps startled by Bea's intensity. She is staring right back at Bea with her big buggy eyes. To Bea, it almost seems as though the creature had the will to either pounce or run at that very second.

Female Gardner - Midna:
Midna gulps, "And this... Is our worker Pearl. Pearl Flutter actually." Comforting the moth girl, she adds, "This woman, at the desk, is new here, so I am sure you can understand how she feels. It's her first time and all.."

Pearl nods wordlessly and seems to snap out of her trance. She approaches the desk, placing the metal box on it. She backs away a bit, waiting for the conversation to continue, so she may lurk in the background. As Bea looks her up-and-down a few more times, she considers that perhaps she isn't too horrifying. She is a pure white and fluffy, though the creature's continued silence is off-putting to her.

Female Gardner - Midna:
"Oh! Hey, this is the gift for the Captain! And since you are headed towards HoP, which is near the Captain, maybe you can drop this off. I believe Pearl here was wanting to do it herself but..." She looks at Pearl briefly, "Maybe you two could do it together?"

Pearl and Bea simply stare blankly at each other, wordless. Bea, because she is still in shock that mothpeople exist, and Pearl because... ?

The Sooty Gardner - George:
George scoops up the metal box in one hand and is instantly out the door. "Look, I'll go with you," addressing Beatrix. He grabs Beatrix's hand without asking and starts Bea down the hallway. He shouts back to Hydroponics, "Watch my plants while I'm away!" before shaking his head, "Ah, who am I kidding, Midna will watch my plants whether I ask her to or not."

The Sooty Gardner - George:
He lets go of Beatrix's hand instantly. "Ah, shucks, I forgot my hand was still a bit dirty." They stop near the fountain past the cafeteria. "I just wanted to get you out of there. You seemed uncomfortable. And to be blunt, I want to get out of there too. I can only take Midna's nagging in short bursts. How ya feelin’? We're headed to HoP, Head of Personnel, right? Oh yeah, my name's George—Forgot if I introduced myself or not. I didn't catch yours."

(i just wanna make a note for when ur adding my text to your posts that i use single quotes to mean someone is thinking and double quotes for the obvious reasons. just putting that here to prevent any confusion! oh also i will probably be writing a very small amount of things regarding your characters so let ME know if i mess up any of their personalities)

Bea wipes her hand on her jumpsuit staining it slightly.
"Uh Huh" She tightens her lips in a slight scowl "I'm Beatrix, Are you this friendly with all the amnesiacs or am I an exception" She smirks finding some humour in George's actions up to this point.

Purposely avoiding the question of her feelings Bea turns away from George and looks at the fountain. The running water bringing her a little peace of mind, not much but it's something. She stands there for a few seconds, George beside her beginning to stir. Bea turns back to George.
"Ok so what the hell are we waiting for, let's go!" She says shifting the blame of just standing around onto George.

(i'm thinking i might draw Bea soon, might draw some of the other characters too. that should probably be put in another thread i would think. anyways)

I'm sure it would be fine to put it wherever. I hope I keep you interested enough that you eventually do, but no worries if you do not.

The Spaceship

Beatrix Montgomery:
Bea wipes her hand on her jumpsuit, staining it slightly. "Uh Huh." She tightens her lips in a slight scowl, "I'm Beatrix, Are you this friendly with all the amnesiacs or am I an exception," She smirks, finding some humor in George's actions up to this point.

Beatrix Montgomery:
Purposely avoiding the question of her feelings, Bea turns away from George and looks at the fountain. The running water brings her a little peace of mind, not much but it's something. She stands there for a few seconds, George beside her beginning to stir. Bea turns back to George. "Ok, so what the hell are we waiting for, let's go!" She says shifting the blame of just standing around onto George.

George:
George puts his hands in his pockets and replies, "Well, alrite. Let's move." They start a-walking down the hall, pivoting left of the first hallway. "I mostly just want to get outta botany for a while. I have some friends that want to meet up in a bit. But, about the amnesiac thing. I just want you to know that all of us started as amnesiacs here. Or at least most of us." Bea is too preoccupied with George's rambling to focus too much on any of the rooms they are passing. One room, somewhere on the way, had a blue plaque that read: LW&C + A Balancing Scales symbol. "Some of us have just been awake a bit longer than others." Just before they reach the end of the hall they take a right, then left into a win-desk. Behind that is a fat man behind a desk reading papers. George clunks the metal box he has been carrying onto the desk.

George:
"Howdy HoP Saimon. I was told this box was for the Captain," he says as the man behind the desk slides open the window.

Saimon:
"Please—no need to call me HoP, just call me Saimon." He lifts the lid on the metal box just a bit to peek inside. "Ah, yes, how foul. I'm sure the Captain will love it."

On the man's ear is a small single-ear hook headset. Bea begins to realize that George also has this headset and likely everyone she has encountered.

Saimon:
Saimon lowers a microphone from it and holds down a button on the side of the headset. "Hey there W S O I have a package addressed to the Captain for you to deliver." He releases the button and snaps his mic back into the frame where it is difficult to see. "Is that all you need from me George?" He looks up from his rolling office chair to Bea. "I don't believe we've met before, have we?"

George:
"This here is Beatrix. She has just woken up, I'm sure."

Saimon:
"Interesting." He leans back and puts his fingertips together. "This is the second one that's come. Jesika is supposed to bring them here. I wonder if she read the entire booklet. Either way, thank you for bringing her here. If you would, please come into my office." He grabs a remote from a drawer in his desk and aims it at a nearby door. The door opens, "If you would, Beatrix, please step through the airlock. I will be over shortly after I get the paperwork from my file cabinet. You, George, may leave if you'd like."

George nods and walks back from the desk.

Beatrix strides through the airlock. After passing, the airlock closes quickly. The room she's in is small. There is a chair and another win-desk. With no other choice, she seats herself in the uncomfortable-looking plain plastic chair. The greasy and thin-haired portly man takes a seat on the other side.

Saimon:
"So, considering our greeter must have gone off script at some point, I will simply say, welcome to the ship!, in case she failed to do so. As it does seem like you have been told I am the Head of Personnel. My name is Saimon Star-City. According to our records, your name is Beatrix Montgomery, nickname... Bee? How do you pronounce that exactly? Bee.. Bee-uh.. Bay?" He shifts the mass of his body around, "Anyways..." pulling out a paper from a folder and overlooking it, "According to this, you are free to take any job you want on the station. My, isn't that exciting for you? I would blow a whistle for you if I had one."

Producing another paper from under the desk, he slides a form to Bea. "If you wouldn't mind, please overlook this and fill it out," and hands Bea a pen. "And of course, I am here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Don't be shy, I have heard everything by now."

Overlooking the form Bea can read the following.

The Form:
Initial Job Requisition Form Type 1-B.

This form is for individuals who, while they may opt to continue to be ship assistants, may benefit from choosing a specialized career early. They also have no particular pre-selected career to slot into, so must choose a job befitting their chosen affinity.

  Jobs:
[_] Security Cadet [Security Department] Not available at this time
  [_] Technical Assistant [Engineering Department]
  [_] Research Assistant [Science Department]
  [_] Medical Intern [Medical Department]
  [_] Cargo Technician [Supply Department]
  [_] Service Worker [Service Department]
  [_] Assistant (Continue to Be)

Saimon:
"Feel free to ask about any of these jobs. I am your best friend, with plenty of time on my hands. I have absolutely nothing more important to do but paper pushing all day," he says theatrically. "Tell me, what do you want to know more about?"

He seems to be taking things along quite fast.

(this ones gonna be a little experimental i'll have Bea ask a question and put in brackets under it the space where saimon would respond. i already know what job shes gonna take so his responses wouldnt change her mind)

As Saimon talks Bea leans back and rests her leg on her other knee.
Bee.. Bee-uh.. Bay?" He shifts the mass of his body around,
"It's Bee-uh" she raises an eyebrow at him, clearly confused why that was even a question. Up until now everyone had said her name correctly.
"Anyways..." Saimon trails off pulling out a paper from a folder and overlooking it, "According to this, you are free to take any job you want on the station. My, isn't that exciting for you? I would blow a whistle for you if I had one."

Looking at the paper Bea's eyes are drawn to the security position seeing as it's crossed out. She taps the pen against the paper on the position trying to indicate it even though Saimon can't actually see what she's tapping.
"This security position." She stops tapping and looks up at Saimon "What's the deal with that, not available?"
[Saimon's response]
Bea hums agreeably accepting the explanation, she holds the pen over the Cargo Technician box before remembering something.
"Say, where'd that Sonny kid end up." she pauses "Scratch that I've got a better question." she rests the clipboard on her legs.
"What in the ever-living **** is going on?!" her composure finally slipping "I mean where the hell are we? Why can't I remember anything before this? Was there even a before?!" Her voice raising with each question practically screaming at the man behind the window. Her eyes have grown wide with fear and anger.

She stands up, the clipboard falling and clattering against the floor, she begins to pace the small room shoving her hands in her hair forcing some strands to be pulled out of the braid. Now with messy hair and crazed eyes she truly matched her inner emotions on the outside. As she paces her face grows wet from either sweat or tears, most likely both.
Almost as quickly as it started she suddenly freezes in place facing a corner. She crouches down doing something to calm herself down that Saimon can't see. After a minute and some change she stands back up and wipes her face before turn back around stooping down to pick the clip board and pen back up marking a quick X on Cargo Technician with maybe too much force. She tosses the clipboard back on the win-desk making intense eye contact with Saimon.

Bea walks up to the exit door which will not open seeing as at some point in her freak out Saimon remotely locked the door (feel free to change this reason i figured since she was clearly having some sort of mental breakdown he wouldnt want her to be able to just run) She turns to look at him again her eyes widened slightly with anger. She turns away and looks down with a sigh before sitting back down making a gesture with her hand basically saying "Ok get it over with"

As Saimon talks, Bea leans back, and rests her leg on her other knee.

Beatrix Montgomery:
"It's Bee-uh" she raises an eyebrow at him, clearly confused why that was even a question. Up until now everyone had said her name correctly.

Looking at the paper, Bea's eyes are drawn to the security position, seeing as it's crossed out. She taps the pen against the paper on a box, trying to indicate it, even though Saimon can't see or understand.

Beatrix Montgomery:
"This security position." She stops tapping and looks up at Saimon, "What's the deal with that, not available?"

Saimon:
"Of course. Well, simply put, the Security personnel have not been very busy as of lately. There are very few crimes on this ship, only ever minor ones really, so really most of them are just killing time. They are bored out of their minds, Bea. Too little work is simply not a satisfying arrangement—for anyone. And boredom leads people to very, very bad places."

Beatrix Montgomery:
Bea hums agreeably accepting the explanation, she holds the pen over the Cargo Technician box before remembering something. "Say, where'd that Sonny kid end up?" She pauses, "Scratch that I've got a better question." She rests the clipboard on her legs. "What in the ever-living **** is going on?!" her composure finally slipping, "I mean where the hell are we? Why can't I remember anything before this? Was there even a before?!" Her voice raised with each question practically screaming at the man behind the window. Her eyes have grown wide with fear and anger.

She stands up. The clipboard falls off and clattering against the floor. She begins to pace the small room shoving her hands in her hair. Some strands are forced to be pulled out of the braid. With her hair messy and eyes crazed, her outside perfectly matched her inside. Her face grows wet from sweat, or tears, or a mixture of both.

Almost as quickly as it started, she freezes in place facing a corner. She crouches down, doing something to calm herself down, that Saimon can't see from his angle. After a minute, and some change, she stands back up and wipes her face. Eventually she turns back and stoops down for the clipboard and pen. She marks a quick [X] on Cargo Technician, with maybe too much force. She tosses the clipboard back on the win-desk, making intense eye contact with Saimon.

Before getting a response, Bea attempts the exit door... But it's locked, presumably by Saimon, during her panic attack. Hell, maybe even before that. For all she knows it might have been locked before she sat down. Her eyes widen a touch with indignation.

Beatrix Montgomery:
She sits back down with a sigh, a gesture with her hand basically saying "Ok get it over with."

Saimon:
He leans back comfortably in his seat, deciding to let the silence sink in before responding, "Well, I for one, consider this interaction a success. I would just like you to know, from friend to friend, that there have been far worse responses here. And it looks like..." He picks up the clipboard and pen quickly, before slamming the window shut. "It looks like you have successfully chosen a career! And your form has no threats, doodles, or tears present even. Although, you did poke a hole through the X on accident. Nevertheless, I have to say, I am very impressed by how you handle your emotions Beatrix. You should be proud of this quality of yours.”

Saimon:
”Of course, I will have to ask that you try your best to maintain your current emotional state. There is always a chance that, when situations arise, that security might arrive before the ship's empath can, and when that happens, things can end sourly.” He lips his chapped lips. “I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen to you—or any of my employees for that matter."

Saimon:
"Although, I guess your direct boss will be Quartermaster Jones from now on. Regarding your friend Sonny, I have good news for you, you will be seeing him a lot more. He was automatically assigned the role of Salvager. You two are coworkers it seems—though, of course all of us are coworkers, and more importantly, family."

Saimon picks up the remote from a distant table. The doorbolts unlock and the airlock flies open. Bea stands up, ready to depart.

Saimon:
"If you would, please follow the signs on the signs in the hallway that read: [SUPP]. The yellow signs. It stands for Supply. That's where Cargo is in case you were not told. They handle all of our goods and resources. The yellow is a symbol of money. You will be paid well for doing your job—of course," he winks at Bea. "Now if you wouldn't mind, please come around to my front desk. I need to change your ID for your new job."

Bea notes that Saimon did not really seem to answer much of anything regarding where we are, or what we are doing, or the amnesia. As she steps out, she sees that George, the gardener, is still there in the hallway. He seems busy talking to a dark-skinned man in an assistant's outfit. She might have passed by him earlier.

Saimon informs Bea that her ID needs to be changed, and she complies to get it done fast. He slides it into a computer that Bea cannot see, smashes keys on a keyboard, and out pops a new, updated, ID card for Bea:

The ID-Card:
  Name: [Beatrix "Bea" Montgomery]
  Job Title: [Cargo Technician]
  Stationed: [UTSS-15]

Saimon:
As Bea tries to pick up the ID card off the desk, Saimon places his hand on top of hers. "And Bea, just so you know, I'm always here for you—quite literally, and figuratively as well. The station has many friendly crewmates out there to help you as well. Just like George over there." He shouts out cheerily, "Isn't that right George?"

George and his friend just shrug at Saimon's antics. Bea notices that those two are standing near a set of signs, one of those signs being the yellow-background [SUPP]. Saimon on the other hand, is just sitting there at his desk, anticipating Bea's move.

As Saimon speaks Bea silently seethes, contempt for the man behind the counter slowly growing. She doesn't understand why she's so angry at him. Maybe because he didn't just let her leave, she might have seen this as him getting in her way. Deep in thought on ways to get Saimon to show her more respect that she thinks she deserves, she misses most of his comments about family and him caring about her well-being that normally would have caused her to get frustrated as she didn't believe in that bull.

As Bea tries to pick up the ID card off the desk, Saimon places his hand on top of hers. She slowly looks up at him her eyes completely filled by hate. She snatches her hand away violently turning and walking away from the desk ignoring both Saimon and George. She afixes the new ID to her jumpsuit while she walks in the direction she assumes cargo is in.
While walking in some random direction she comes across an alcove with a couple of vending machines. There's a cow man wearing a yellow jumpsuit, bulky belt and strange goggles standing in front of the cigarette machine. He puts a fresh box of cigarettes in his pocket and pulls out his ID from the machine before putting it back on his jumpsuit.

He turns and sees Bea staring at him to which he makes a face and walks away. Bea tracks him with her eyes before walking up to the cigarette machine herself. She inserts her ID and tries to buy a box of cigarettes but the machine refuses. The screen on it displays "Insufficient Funds" she scowls at the machine and replaces her ID.

Eventually she makes it to the cargo bay walking through the door with ease, she scans the room for Sonny for a few seconds but doesn't really care to find him so gives up and instead looks for this Jones guy.

(the cow person is just a cameo from one of my characters on goon station, he's not coming back lol)

She snatches her hand away violently, turning, and walking away from the desk ignoring both Saimon and George. She affixes the new ID to her jumpsuit while she walks in the direction of the SUPP signs where Cargo allegedly is. She is far too tired from all of this nonsense to notice much, though she does stop for a break once.

While walking in some random direction, she comes across an alcove with a couple of vending machines.

Eventually, she makes it to the stated 'Cargo'. Through the little mechanical yellow airlock she goes, passing by the empty front desk. Past the entry checkpoint is an archway with bolded text. It reads, "SUPPLY AND FREIGHT HANGAR." The characters of the text have spurs in the middle of them, which give it an old-fashioned look. Below that is a much more plain sign that says, "Yessir, this is the Cargo Bay!" to alleviate confusion.

Inside the room is spacious in the middle, with airlocks at the end of the room that say "TO SPACE." The sides of the room have rows upon rows of shelves like a warehouse. Many have metal boxes in them—all closed. Many are  labeled, 'Ore.'

Bea scans the room for Sonny for a few seconds, but doesn't find him, or anyone for that matter. Does she really care to find him at all? Instead, she walks around the warehouse halls, hoping to bump into this 'Jones' person.

In one hallway she can see someone with a cowboy hat and a blue denim jacket handling the contents of one unlabeled box on the shelf. When he hears Bea coming he closes the box and turns to greet her. He has a very direct swagger about him. He approaches before saying a word. He gently removes the ID card from Bea's clothes and inspects it closely.

Quartermaster Jones:
"Well then, it seems like we've got another new youngblood." It is unclear if he is actually older than Bea or not. His eyebags seem quite advanced, though the rest of his face is quite youthful, "I will be your new boss, Quartermaster Jakub Jones." He reaches out to shake Bea's hand.

Quartermaster Jones:
"It looks like you just missed orientation. Since we're in a lull right now we aren't doing a lot of moving. Instead, the gang took the other recruit to teach them how to salvage maintenance. I'm not sure if you met him on the way here, his name is Sonny."

Both take a seat near the middle of the cargo bay.

Quartermaster Jones:
"I'll keep it short. What we do here is pretty simple on this ship. Every night, after everyone wakes and readies up, we all get to our posts. From 9AM to 5PM, everyone works, except for those who work night shifts. Here at Cargo Bay, nobody works night-shift, except for me and a few salvagers, so you don't have to worry about that. Just try to show up on time. If you can do that, you're already better than the rest of my team." He rubs his eyes a bit. "Every once in a blue moon, a schooner will show up. It will deliver us items. We distribute those items to the correct stations. We then put on as much ore as the schooner can hold to sell off. Right now, there is nothing to distribute until the next one comes in, so you're free to just sit back and relax if you would like."

Quartermaster Jones:
"Or, I could radio in my team to take you along on their little maintenance expedition. That would probably be best, but I don't want to rush you. You can just sit back and relax and take it all in." Quartermaster Jones lays his feet down onto a table. He grabs a remote and toggles a button. The metal roll-up door on the far wall rolls up. It reveals a serene view of space, the pitch black void and glittering stars. At the bottom of the view is a giant planet of dark rock and flows of lava.

Quartermaster Jones:
"Speaking of radio, here; Have this." He sits up briefly to hand Bea a yellow headset. "Put it on. The White Button is for talking on general communications. The Yellow Button is for talking on cargo communications. It's how we talk across the station. Don't worry about hearing anything. Everything everyone says is saved to text, and it shoots a log of the text into your brain so you can read it and scroll through it. It's not as intrusive as it sounds." He looks like he is about to fall asleep in his chair from how calm and relaxed he is. "The fact that it's saved to text-chat means we don't have to hear babbling and rambling all day. Instead, we get to nap and bask in the starlight." His cowboy hat tips over his eyes. He could fall asleep any second.

Bea smiles softly at QM Jones his relaxed personality or at least his current state of tiredness brings her a certain amount of comfort. She rolls her shoulders and massages the back of her neck to help relax her muscles that were, up until this point, tensed from the stress of the situation.
She slips on her headset, she winces preemptively expecting it to be overwhelming hearing voices and having text ported directly into her brain but it was surprisingly underwhelming, Jones was right.

Bea stands up as quietly as possible as not to disturb her new manager. She steps towards the space window and looks out for a little while, her arms crossed and a barely perceptible smile on her lips.
She looks down at her jumpsuit and realizes she's still wearing the drab grey from when she first woke up. She looks around the cargo bay until she finds an unoccupied locker that she figures probably has cargo tech supplies in it. Pulling the handle it doesn't budge she tries again but only after pressing her ID against it. It opens. She looks inside.

Bea smiles softly at QM Jones. His relaxed personality, or at least his current state of tiredness, brings her a certain amount of comfort.

Bea stands up as quietly as possible, as not to disturb her new manager. Inside is a more appropriately themed jumpsuit. With QM Jones distracted now is as good a time as ever to swap clothes.

Changing did not take long. She folded her old jumpsuit and set it on a table next to the locker. Surely someone will know what to do with it. Cargo's job is to find out where items belong anyways, so her coworkers should be good at it. Bea checks that her ID is level on her new jumpsuit and struts around a bit. She gets one more glance at the vista of the void.

Through a side door enters a woman. Same yellow-themed jumpsuit as Bea. She is taller than Bea and much more visibly stronger. Her sleeves are rolled up, likely to show off her bis and tris. Her dark hair in a simple ponytail with much of her forehead showing. She walks over to grab a big, bulky, blue plastic flashlight off the ground before catching sight of Bea.

Cargo Lady:
"Woah, you must be the other gal Sonny was talking about. I had no idea you would end up at Cargo." She peers at Bea's ID. "Cargo Tech huh? That sucks they start you at the bottom, they started him out in Salvage. I just came back to get a flashlight or two for us. We're showing Sonny how to hunt around in the dark rooms. You want to come along? It's a basic part of the job, but if you're really afraid of the dark I'm sure QM would let you off." She looks over at Jones, seeing him motionless in his recliner. "He's like that."

Cargo Salvager Lady - Dai:
"My name's Dai by the way. I'm a Salvager." She says pointing to her ID card. It reads:

ID Card:
  Name: [Dyani Dancer]
  Job Title: [Salvager]
  Holographic Pixel Symbol: [Recycling Icon]

Cargo Salvager Lady - Dai:
"I'd shake your hand, but my hands are all dirty from poking around out there. Look, grab a flashlight from the floor real quick." She motions to the hefty blue flashlights. It will take an entire hand to carry them. She walks Bea over to the airlock she came from and opens it. Inside is pure darkness. There are exposed pipes and wires everywhere. The metal plating and grates are far more bare, and aesthetically stark, and utilitarian than all the rest of the ship. Dai shines her flashlight in. A rat, exposed, scurries away. "These are the maintenance tunnels. I could guide you to the dark rooms where the rest of the team is if you'd like." She wipes some beads of sweat from her forehead.

Bea could. Or she could spend the whole day off like QM seems to be suggesting.

Bea stoops down an picks up a flashlight, pointing it towards the floor she presses the button to test if it works. Since it turns on she is satisfied and turns it back off. As nice as sitting around with the QM could be Bea decides she's got to learn her job, it wasn't really a choice though. She felt she would go stir crazy if she wasn't doing anything for an entire work day.

"Alright lets go." She motions for Dai to enter the maintenance tunnel first.

(shorter one today, not feeling too great right now)
