Duck Season, Season 2 Call to Action!
#1
I got some great feedback here, so I am putting out a call for action from the community to help solidify what you would like to see this time around. (Season 1)

Things I would like to keep:

The 3 week, weekly structure of the event.

The prize structure which awards duck times, weekly leaderboards and lowest overall time.
stat total limit

The rules against glitches and clipping through blocks.

Things I would like to be different:

Too many levels. 30 was clearly too many. I have 9 new ones complete and have had a bunch in the works, but if we would like it to be over the holidays again, I am going to need to bust my but to get a few more finished.

I would like the players to recommend cosmetic rewards as prizes

Overall cumulative time will not be the grand prize this time around. Should it be most duck points? Most world records? or a life round? Grand prize being duck points would be another built in mechanism to keep players from hiding strats until the end.

It could be cool to have a live race as another category or even the grand prize. Maybe not the grand prize because it is a different skillset. The issue would be finding a time that works for each qualified player.

The posibility of using the 8p client because of its' ability to time with frames.

The Stat Total Limit. Some players have recommended 190 total instead of 200. If we use the 8p client, then level won't be an issue, but I am also not convinced that more is better. I want the stat total to keep the game feeling like pr2.

I would love for the players last year to assist me by creating a more clear comprehensive ruleset about glitches. what is/should be allowed and what is not. I do not know this game well enough. obviously.

Keeping duck times for season 1 levels claimable would be a good idea for those who didn't play last year.

One issue i can see with the 8p client is that it would reveal runs on the leaderboard. One way to stop that could be to put a finish by each start to spam the leaderboard with fast times to help hide the runs until the leaderboard update. The other option would be to embrace it and not have the 3 week structure.

when should the event be? I am not exactly ready, but I could get it together if I need to. Starting on a weekend again would be a good goal. so the 19th or 20th could be a good time to start unless doing it over the holidays was not a strength of season 1.
Or, we could have the event another time. Maybe over spring break or in the summer.

I have a couple season 1 levels that have rewards and are up for only one week

I could bring in some existing levels that were not built for the duck campaign projet that would be good to speedrun to help fill out the roster. Like Dusk Raiders by Overbeing.

Stunt offered to make a better spreadsheet for season 2... Is that offer still on the table?

Recap. I would love feedback, and for people to volenteer to put together a council of experts for help solidifying the ruleset that you lot would like to compete under as well as the prizes that should be given out.

Quack Quack!

Re- 8p/Leaderboards - I think it's almost necessary for the contest to be on the 8p client and allow 30fps, then we can see the frame count without any lag for levels. Hard to say if it's better to leave them public immediately, that does solve the issue of hiding runs but it may reveal runs a little TOO quick. It's also possible to just copy all of the levels onto the 8p client, re-released them and while saving click the button "public leaderboards" to turn it off. With the 8p client we could also increase the stat barrier for faster, smoother runs since everyone is automatically rank 150. I know last season for people like Miko this was a challenge.

Realistically I think the summer may be better than over the holidays season. Gives you more time to have it all ready too. Yes people aren't working/at school as much, but they are busy with their own adventures and families.

I can most likely still help with making a pretty spreadsheet

On second thought. I could easily have 20 levels ready if people want to do it now.

I have:
Turn
Obstacle
Fake
Crawl
Run
Propeller
Top hat
Trap
Current
Mire

Dusk raiders
Zerostar
Luna temple
Race, TT
Battleground (clowns)
Quality map
One or more of my precision maps
Scavenger hunt

And possibly some others depending on how many people want in the event.

I'm still slowly but surely recovering from that accident/injury but I can answer messages within a reasonable delay nowadays, and it's going to get better past January 14th after my second surgery, hopefully, so if you still need help with the whole sTRUCture of the contest and/or levels by then, feel free to tag me here or on Discord ^^

As for participation, we'll see when it happens and how I feel by then lol. Haven't touched the game for at least 2 months now :C ... and what even is that new 8p client with features about hehe, I'll have to check that out too at some point I guess. So much catching up to do Tongue
If you're reading this, it means I have not made a cool signature yet and you should be proud of yourself.

Good thing is I'm not anymore challenged by a lack of rank, since I went from 45 to 61 thanks to different competitions Smile Bad thing for you guys though Tongue

Holy freaking JIGGY dude, I am so ready for this.

I will say that 30 levels was a lot, and it most certainly consumed my entire life.. Although I happily let it ?. It does feel absolutely necessary to use Oxy's 8p client though.. It's got all of the quality of life features that pr2 has been needing. Maybe you could work directly with Oxy to remove the leaderboards / make custom leaderboards for this event? It could be the crossover of the century. I think it would be fine to keep the times public, but the strats should stay hidden (i.e. prevent the public from watching the replay). I also would have preferred the event be ran over the holidays as work is marginally slower this time of year, but I will personally make time either way.. Glitches are for sure something that I don't have much to speak on, but if any glitches are allowed they should be fully explained in great detail somewhere in the event overview, for accessibility reasons.. (I'm a noob.)

Raiden did a thorough breakdown of last years Duck Season in your last follow-up post, but the existance of the 8P client changes a lot.. Anyways, stay epic..,
