After 8 years, it's time for me to officially say goodbye to PR2 development.

The obvious question many of you will ask is "duh, where have you been?" I want to make it clear that my inactivity was not by choice. Without getting too specific, my employer has pretty strict guidelines on open-source contributions. Behind the scenes, for the past couple of years, I've tried my very best to get back to a place that allowed me to continue regular PR2 development, and if that does happen, I'll post a jubilant update; however it's becoming increasingly clear that won't happen in a way that allows me to make meaningful changes moving forward.

It's been an absolute blast engaging with this community in such a sacred way; curating and preserving a piece of internet history we all love dearly. I couldn't be more thankful to Jacob for taking a chance on me back in 2018 and letting me take the reins on his magnum opus. Working on PR2 provided me a creative outlet that made me a better programmer and allowed me to escape from the world when I needed it the most. I can confidently say that I owe much of my real-world success to this project. Put simply, it changed my life for the better.

To the community that accepted me along the way: thank you. None of this would've been possible without your incredible suggestions, activity, participation, contributions (special thanks to the folks who provided music and vector graphics!), etc. It really warms my heart to think of everyone that's had a chance to influence the game. Whether that's something as small as adding pages for the campaign tab, or as medium as finally adding the cheese hat, or as large as adding block options and teleport blocks, all of you were integral to changing PR2 for the better.

As for the future of development, I've transferred the PR2 client repo to Jacob. I believe he intends to make it public, so you can see all of my crazy comments and additions along the way. I'm excited at the prospect of a public PR2 client source codebase inspiring a new generation of PR2 development and, who knows, maybe teaching another aspiring programmer to code.

I want to be clear that this isn't goodbye from the community. I'm not retiring from being an admin, nor am I shutting down JV. Additionally, all closed-source development (JV, Discord, other games, etc) and community curation (streaming!) is fair game. So, I'll still be around. Can't get rid of me that easily!

Hi everyone I hope you’re doing good.

I certainly am. I’m very busy in life with work (IT & Network Engineering + some side work) and hobbies. Although I’m busy with work I get a lot more free time as well for my hobbies, so it’s great. I worked at Toyota for 4 years before that and learnt a lot. I love my work. 

My hobbies being football, basketball, going to the gym, cars and games. I am also the owner of a Nissan S13 Silvia, S15 Silvia (both currently SR20DET) and a S170 Toyota Crown Athlete (1JZ). 

In addition to this, since college when I studied engineering and made many more friends, 1 particular friend was Japanese. Since he and his family returned there before COVID, I always stayed in contact with him. I always loved Japan and because of my friend I have studied Japanese and am fluent in it. He also introduced me to many of his friends and their friends. I also went there a couple years ago and going again this year. I got offered a couple of jobs out there in my fields of work and will be taking those up in the near future as I continue to save and invest my money.

I'm 26 now (ANCIENT) And I'd like to say I have so many memories of JV considering how much time I spent loitering here, but honestly I have forgotten so much, haha. I mean, I was what, 14? I mostly recall it as a constant humiliation ritual. I was a lonely kid and desperate for attention respect but I juustt wasn't cool enough to get it... But that's okay. It was still a fun place to hang out online in and you will be happy to learn I finally figured out how to be a cool chill guy who everyone likes and who is super talented at the creative arts.


Anyway, I wanted to share some core memories I have of my time on JV...


One thing I think about VERY OFTEN, because it was truly embarrassing:


That one user, I cant remember his name (sorry if you're reading this) He was from norway (sidebar: I'm now a norweeaboo and love norway, norge er flott!), he had a cat avatar/persona ??? and he was pretty popular. A power user, some might say.
Anyway, he posted a blog with a link that links to your own facebook page, like, as a troll post like haha I found your facebook. I was fooled by this link. I thought my facebook had been exposed for everyone to see... so in retaliation I used my amazing stalking skills and found HIS ACTUAL facebook profile and posted a blog linking that. Which was CRAZY of me, and someone did reply to it like uhhhh dude... he was just pranking you...
I quickly deleted my blog but that interaction does haunt me to this day.

Another embarrassing incident was when I made a comic (the comic thread!!! so much fun) explaining the backstory of someone ELSES OC character completely unprompted. It was Player Z/ Zed, idk if they are still around.... I just thought they were SO cool and iconic and I did not realise how weird it was for me to do that lmao. I hope they were flattered but I do look back at that and cringe.

GOD I hope I can think of some happy memories.... uhh...  Remember those youtube poops of jiggmin that one guy made? good times. I remember hanging out in that one jiggmin flop game where you're a plank of wood (?) with some of the JV peeps and just chilling and making friends on there...

This is so random but I remember having a conversation with someone in PMs talking about if I was ugly or not and they were like "no offence but you kinda are" LMAO.

I remember that weird guy who was really into Ariana grande and always posted that gif of her getting squirted with water and at the time that was the only reason I knew who Ariana grande was. I remember someone talking about how they were making their own operating system called Bubble OS and how it was going to be super popular (?) lmao. And there was that time some really irritating guy got mod powers and everyone ****ing hated him and it was a total shitshow within like a week. CLASSIC forum drama that one!

Some cool people I remember wanting to be friends with... There was a girl who was like... purple, (I think her name was, and truly I hate to say this.. tentaclegrape... but maybe I'm misremembering. I hope so.) FLYBIRD (Who I saw made a post and I will be PMing I 100% remember being friends with flybird. Is flybird on discord? let me know...) Also saw someone called PILLZ and that's REALLY ringing a bell and i'm 90% sure their avatar was DRAWN BY ME LMAO (did they call me ugly, perhaps...?)

Ok I don't remember anything else. BYE!!!

Been almost 5 years since my last visit.

Heyy, I'm marshmelow (I know it's misspelled--my 8 year old self however didn't, and I'm sticking to it lol).
I absolutely loved PR2 as a child and into my early teens, so I was delighted when I found that there's a download and that servers are still up.
Though I have to say, I'm feeling mighty inadequate now at level 34 lol. Seeing level 80+ is crazy... If memory serves me right, intrpd was one of the highest level players back when I was active, and he was in the high 40s or something...

I focused mainly on art and making levels (though my art wasn't nearly as good as I thought back then >.>). There doesn't seem to be many people playing anymore, but it'd still be fun to get back into things and make a level or two.

If anyone happens upon this and feels like answering a couple questions I've got rattling around, it'd be appreciated:
-How many people are still around? I've logged in a few times, and it varied. At one point there was like 20 something across different servers, and another point like 3 people.

-Does my old nemesis, the art limit, still exist? I remember being thwarted by it many times in the past and had a lot of levels never finished due to it.

-And finally... how long have these forums been a thing? Were they around in 2008? I seem to have missed its heyday unfortunately, but I've always loved forums, so I'm shocked I never learned of this until now. If they've been around awhile, guess I was too busy on Kongregate to notice.

Oh yeah, before I forget--if there's an admin that could assist with some account/login related issues as well, it'd be nice.
